This school has a profound and significant message of bringing everyone, no matter what religion, together and inspiring all of us to be better people than we were before.
Hello everyone, my name is Ferryn Drake and I am a senior. For the past decade, I have attended Catholic schools, but I am not Catholic. I have watched my friends embark on monumental religious experiences like First Communion and Confirmation, but I have never gone through those experiences myself. I have read passages from the Bible in my religion classes, but at times didn’t understand them like my Catholic classmates. I have been asked more times than I can count if I am religious or associated with one, and each time responded with “I don’t know.” Over my past four years at Flintridge Sacred Heart, these factors have never been an issue to whether or not I could be part of the Catholic community. From my first day at the school, I have been welcomed into the religious community with open arms to sing, dance, and reflect. I quickly realized that there is not a set criteria of what it takes to be part of this school’s religious community. This school has a profound and significant message of bringing everyone, no matter what religion, together and inspiring all of us to be better people than we were before. This idea that has been demonstrated by Flintridge Sacred Heart is much bigger than my four short years of high school. Though at times it may seem small, the impact of being welcoming to everyone is immense and shouldn’t be undervalued. I have learned that you get what you give in this world, and the Flintridge Sacred Heart community has shown when you give kindness and love to everyone, that is also what you will receive. Thank you.
