During spring break, Eva traveled to Costa Rica for a global service trip with eight other students from Flintridge Sacred Heart.
What is your favorite memory from this trip?
My favorite memory was my last day working at La Lucha school. It was bittersweet yet fun getting to say bye to all the amazing kids and giving them candy.
What is something you learned on this trip that you will inspire you or remain with you for years to come?
I learned about the importance of community within groups of people. I also learned about the importance of animal care and how it is important to recognize which animals can be kept and which animals cannot.
What are the top three things that you miss from being on this trip?
I miss meeting new people and getting to practice my Spanish. I miss the incredible food. I miss the fun and outgoing activities we would do, such as ziplining.
What was your favorite part of Costa Rica?
My favorite part of Costa Rica was getting to meet all the amazing kids and adults and getting to practice my Spanish with them.
Tell us about the people you met.
The people I met were always so welcoming and open to speak about anything. They were always so nice and respectful no matter the circumstances.
What surprised you?
I was surprised by all the different animals found in Costa Rica.
What was difficult?
It was difficult adjusting to the weather.
What advice do you have for students who attend a similar trip in the future?
Just let loose and have fun. Keep an open mind and don't be scared to try new things.
How do you want to remember this experience going forward?
I want to remember this experience as one in which I went out of my comfort zone and helped people while doing so.
