This class is open to all students FSHA students and is first come first served with a class size limited to 10-12 students. There tuition fee is $375 per person.
The course covers methods to escape common methods of assault against women and girls, (e.g., grab from behind, hair pull, chokehold, etc.) Students will be drilled on how to correctly execute kicks, elbow strikes, palm strikes and knee strikes. Students will experience being grabbed from behind, jolted off the ground and fight back with full force. The skills are taught in a safe and supportive environment.
At the end of the course, students will be comfortable in using their bodies as weapons. They will become more aware of their surroundings, increase situational awareness and recognize pre-contact indicators. The course also discusses dating violence and studies on sexual assault in Southern California.
The class will be run by a program called SHIELD. FSHA has used this program before. SHIELD is a close range fighting system created exclusively for women and girls. SHIELD has been taught for LA County Dept of Public Health, BuzzFeed, FOX Studios, UCLA, USC, Kaiser Permanente, and various schools, companies & government entities. Unlike other training, SHIELD uses the lower body strength to generate power.
