Graduation information for parents

Hard copies of the following letter will be mailed home to all parents who were not able to attend the meeting on February 11 where this information was covered.

Dear Senior Parents:

Four years is not a long time – and your daughter’s high school experience is coming to a close. You have already received most of the following information from the Senior Moderators in the letter that was sent at the beginning of this school year. We are just resending it as a reminder
Enclosed you will find a copy of the schedule for the seniors’ graduation practice days and information regarding graduation tickets and our Baccalaureate Mass. I ask that you go over this letter carefully so that you are aware of all the details. Out of respect for the class as a whole, I expect that all seniors will be present and on time at each practice. Please make NO outside appointments during these/scheduled times.

  1. Before diplomas are issued, all tuition, library fees, and CulinArt food bills must be paid in full. Additionally, students will not be able to purchase prom tickets or receive their yearbooks if there are any unreturned library books. All fees should be paid directly to the specific departments or offices.
  2. The Senior Research Fair will be on Monday, April 8 during flex block. All seniors are required to participate in this event as it is part of their Senior Research Project. Students who do not participate in the fair will not be considered for participation in the Senior Research Showcase.
  3. The Senior Research Showcase is Wednesday, May 22 from 6:30 - 9:00 pm. All families are invited to this event. A formal invitation is forthcoming.
  4. Thursday, May 23rd is also our Candle Rose Ceremony combined with our Farewell Liturgy and Alumnae Induction Ceremony. This will begin at 1:20 pm in our gym. During this Farewell Liturgy, our student body says “farewell” to our seniors and wishes them blessings on their journey and our seniors are inducted into our FSHA Alumnae Association. Parents are invited to attend this Mass.
  5. The senior class trip to Disneyland will be on Friday, May 24. We will leave FSHA at 8:30 am and will return by 11:00 pm. The cost will be approximately $135.00 which includes a single park one day ticket and the bus. If students have an annual pass or will provide their own ticket, the fee for the bus is $25.00. All students must ride on the bus to Disneyland and back to school unless accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
  6. Senior Awards Night will be on Wednesday, May 29th at 7:00pm in our theater building. Seniors will need to wear their caps and gowns and white shoes. All Seniors are expected to attend. Due to limited seating in the Theatre, this event is only open to Parents, Step Parents and Guardians.
  7. Graduation and Baccalaureate practice will be on Tuesday May 28 - Friday May 31. All seniors are required to attend all practices. Tuesday - Thursday, practice will be from 8:00 - 12:00. On Friday, practice will begin at 8:00 and will end in time for students to change before the Senior Brunch hosted by their freshmen little sisters.
  8. Friday, May 31 is our Senior Brunch. This event is held in the gym and will begin at 11:30. All seniors are expected to attend. Brunch will be done by 1:00.
  9. Baccalaureate Mass is on Saturday June 1 and will begin at 5:30 on the Senior Lawn. Seniors will be asked to report to the Green Room in the Main Building by 4:15. Because of seating limitations, we ask that only parents and step-parents attend this event. Seniors wear their white caps and gowns along with white shoes. They may wear light colored dresses or dress slacks underneath their gown. A reception, hosted by the sophomore class for the graduates and their parents immediately follows the Mass and will be in the dining room. If you are planning dinner or have another event the same evening, Mass will be finished at approximately 7:30pm.
  10. Graduation is on Sunday, June 2 on Crane Field and will begin at 5:30.
    1. Seniors must be dropped off at the main building by 4:00 and will be shuttled to the SAC.
    2. Parents must park at the Art Center College of Design. There will be shuttle service to FSHA Crane Field. Your cooperation in this matter is greatly appreciated and will help make your daughter’s graduation a much nicer affair. If you have any questions, you may call Mrs. Bilotta at (626) 685-8570. Please do not attempt to park on the streets surrounding the school.
    3. All seniors will be given 10 guest tickets and two parent tickets. Additional tickets for step-parents are available upon request. All tickets will be distributed to the seniors on the first day of graduation practice.
    4. Students will arrive wearing their graduation dresses and white shoes. Gloves, Sacred Heart medals and roses will be in the gym when the graduates arrive. No flower wreaths, leis, or any jewelry other than small stud earrings may be worn. Dresses will be distributed to the seniors at school before Easter Break. The cost to hem the dress will be covered by FSHA if taken to David’s Bridal in Burbank by a date TBA. Other alterations are at each family’s own expense.
    5. Please note that parent/guest admittance to the seating area begins at 4:30pm. There will be no earlier seating.
    6. Guests with special needs or handicap status may either drive themselves or be dropped off at the junior lot. They will then be shuttled to Crane Field. Please call Mrs. Bilotta (626) 685-8570 or email Dbilotta@fsha.org so she can make proper arrangements. If special seating is required for senior citizens and or persons who cannot be in the direct sun, please let Mrs. Bilotta know as well.
  11. Senior Laptop Turn-in schedule: All Senior DAY students will turn in their laptops on the morning of Tuesday, May 28 at 8:00 am, before Graduation Practice. If you HAVE NOT purchased your FSHA laptop, your daughter is required to turn in her laptop power charger at that time as well. If you HAVE purchased the laptop, your daughter can come pick up her laptop after the Senior Brunch on Friday, May 31 from the Help Desk office. All Senior BOARDING students who have purchased their FSHA laptop will turn it in to FSHA Tech staff members in the boarding hall at 3pm on Thursday, May 30 and pick it up in the Green Room the following day (May 31) between 3:00 and 3:30 pm. Boarding Seniors who have NOT purchased their laptop will turn theirs in, along with the power charger, to the Tech or Boarding staff on Friday, May 31st or prior to the student moving out of the boarding hall, whichever is earlier. Students who fail to turn their laptop in to the FSHA tech staff in a timely manner will not be allowed to participate in Baccalaureate and Graduation ceremonies, regardless of whether the laptop has been purchased or not. All graduating seniors may keep the external USB hard drive provided to them by the school. Those students who purchased their FSHA laptop can easily restore all of their files and settings from the drive when their laptop is returned to them, and all students are encouraged to continue using it for regular backups with whatever computer they choose. Whether or not they have purchased their laptop, all students MUST complete a backup of their computer immediately prior to handing in their laptop in order to avoid losing all of the documents, photos, music and other materials that are on their laptop. Students should contact Mr. Ancheta at the Help Desk well in advance if they are having problems backing up.
  12. The Parents’ Guild is interested in collecting senior uniforms, especially dress uniforms (plaid skirt and blazer) for the used uniform sale for incoming families. If your daughter would like to donate her plaid skirt and/or blazer, she should bring the items to school during the week of graduation practice.
We look forward to joining you in celebrating your daughter. How proud you will be to see her at all these Graduation events. Her growth and goodness speak highly of you! Thank you so much for letting all of us “on the hill” share in your daughter’s education. And let us applaud the final moments of your daughter’s high school years at graduation on, Sunday, June 2nd, at 5:30pm. We hope you will have some extra time to spend with your daughter during the last months of her senior year.

In loving prayer and gratitude,
Sr. Celeste,
Ms. Contreras,and
Ms. Ortega
